He is in honors-level classes, is a black belt in martial arts, takes flying lessons and already is planning to attend a military academy. And he's only 13.

It's no wonder Christian Scroggs, of Spring Grove, was selected to attend a national leadership conference next month.

Scroggs, an eighth grade student at St. John the Baptist Catholic School in Johnsburg, was selected to attend the National Young Leaders State Conference in Chicago Feb. 12 to 15. He'll take part in a leadership development program with the theme "Courageous Leadership."

It's a four-day program that encourages participants to build a "toolkit' of strategies to help them "successfully dream, create and implement plans that will change how they view their role as leaders in the community," according to the program description.

Way to go, Christian!
