LAKE IN THE HILLS – A grandmother is trying to remove two young girls from her daughter’s care after the 28-year-old woman was accused of leaving them alone again to go to a liquor establishment.
Randi L. Losch, of Lake in the Hills, was arrested early Thursday for allegedly driving drunk and leaving her 6-year-old and 23-month-old daughters home alone for about three hours starting at 10 p.m. Wednesday. She is charged with driving under the influence, two counts of child endangerment, and two traffic offenses.
Those charges came about two weeks after Losch pleaded guilty to similar offenses for leaving the girls alone June 20 while she searched for her boyfriend at a bar.
“Losch is an alcoholic who fails to exercise the most basic and fundamental good judgment to protect the safety of her children, and the children are in need of protection from her,” Losch’s mother, Janice Garinger, wrote in a request for an emergency order of protection.
Garinger was granted that order of protection, which prevents Losch from seeing her children until Feb. 26, when a hearing on the matter is scheduled. Garinger said she planned to file within two weeks a petition for custody of the 6-year-old, whose father died within a few months of her birth. The 23-month-old’s father, who lives in Las Vegas, is planning to pick her up, which Garinger said she would not contest.
Losch is serving two years’ probation for misdemeanor charges of resisting a peace officer and endangering the life or health of a child in connection with the earlier incident, which her attorney said was “isolated.”
Losch remained in McHenry County Jail on Thursday evening unable to post 10 percent of her $3,000 bail. Her next court date is Feb. 24.
