PR grad Deain likely out for season at NIU

Less than two weeks after being named Mid-American Conference Player of the Week, Northern Illinois University senior pitcher Andy Deain will likely miss the rest of the season with a broken finger, NIU coach Ed Mathey said Monday.

Deain, who graduated from Prairie Ridge, was struck in the hand by a comebacker in Friday’s game at Southeast Missouri. He left the outing after allowing six runs and 10 hits in four innings. Deain had a 2-0 record with four starts this season.

Deain missed his senior season at Prairie Ridge after suffering a torn ACL playing basketball in the offseason. He was a standout for the Wolves as a sophomore and junior when he registered a 22-1 record over those two seasons.
