Island Lake man denies harassment charges

WOODSTOCK – An Island Lake man formally denied allegations that he harassed a teen-aged girl with whom he is accused of having a sexual relationship.

Marc Carder, 48, of 4616 Vista Drive, pleaded not guilty today to three counts of harassment of a witness. Authorities have said Carder fabricated postings to Internet sites indicating the girl had romantic feelings for him in March.

Carder allegedly used the postings to have his attorney, who didn’t know they were fabricated, indirectly contact the girl and threaten legal proceedings, according to the indictment against him.

Carder also faces allegations of predatory criminal sexual assault and aggravated criminal sexual abuse involving the same girl from June 2002 to August 2006.

The girl’s father discovered their relationship in 2007 when he found pornographic photographs of the two, police said. The girl was a family friend of Carder, and Carder was a public safety officer at the College of Lake County at the time.

Both cases are next due in court May 14.
