Cutler checks out Wrigley

Bears quarterback Jay Cutler sent Cubs fans into a frenzy this weekend during his visit to Wrigley Field.

Cutler fired an inside fastball to Cubs reliever David Patton for the ceremonial first pitch Saturday. He wore a Cubs jersey with No. 6 and “Cutler” stitched across the back.

Cutler also sang “Take Me Out To The Ballgame” during the seventh inning stretch. The team provides a sheet with the words for nervous singers, but Cutler informed team personnel that he needed no such help.

Baseball, it turns out, is nothing new to Cutler. As a high school student in Santa Claus, Ind., Cutler was an all-state, honorable mention shortstop and a first-team all-state basketball player.

But football has proved to be a lucrative calling. Cutler was named to his first Pro Bowl in December and became the fastest player in Broncos history to throw 50 touchdown passes, accomplishing the feat in the 33rd game of his career.

The Bears acquired Cutler on April 2 for Kyle Orton, two first-round picks and a third-round pick.
