GREENWOOD – The McHenry County Division of Transportation, in conjunction with the Greenwood Township Road District, is closing the Allendale Road Bridge over Vander Karr Creek in Greenwood Township.
The closure is effective today and is because of “a loss of structural integrity of the steel bridge beams,” according to a news release from Joseph R. Korpalski Jr., director of transportation and county engineer for the McHenry County Division of Transportation.
Motorists will be detoured to Queen Anne Road, Thayer Road and Miller Road.
Inspections take place on a routine basis and intermittently as required on all bridges on township roads and county highways throughout McHenry County, the news release said. The Illinois Department of Transportation performs the inspections.
The Allendale Road Bridge is northwest of the village of Greenwood and crosses Vander Karr Creek, a branch of Nippersink Creek. The bridge is between Route 47 and Greenwood Road in McHenry County.
The McHenry County Division of Transportation has finalized design engineering and right-of-way acquisition to replace the bridge, and officials anticipate construction will begin on or about June 1.
