Drama is not unique to girls

I was speaking with my sister and one of my closest girlfriends recently and we were discussing some of the many differences with boys and girls. The subject of "drama" came up. This is usually associated with the female pesuasion, especially young little girls coming into their own, and making friends. I gave this a lot of thought, and realized that in my household, the drama thing applies to my young boys, also. I cannot speak for every boy, but my boys are so sensitive and so aware of every comment
made about them, and the tone that is taken when that comment is made.

I found myself almost saying, "I thought the drama thing belonged to the girls!" You do not get away with anything because you may have boys. If yours are anything like mine, you still have to protect their small egos, try to choose your words carefully remembering full well that they are hanging on your every word. Their feelings can be hurt just as quickly and as painfully as with the girls.

When they don't do well at a game, it is the end of their world, and there may be nothing you can do to console them until they have gone through their little episode. As their mom, you have to be extra careful when speaking with them about certain issues, because since you are the mom, you are supposed to know everything and exactly what to do to fix every situation. You do not get away with anything on this one because you have boys. There is still the desire to be friends with every other boy, a member of every team, the best on that team, invited to every party, liked by the girls, the list goes on and on. If these things aren't achieved, guess what ensues? Drama. And in my case, lots of it.

Especially since my 5-year-old looks up to his older brother, Dymitri, and everything he does, Mykal must do. If not, it is the end of Mykals' world. I realize now I should prepare for the drama soon to be coming from my 1-year-old, Nykko. He's obviously next. I've realized that even though there are so many differences between the sexes, this may not be one of them. We may actually have something that is totally common between the two sexes.
