Spring Grove Girl Scout Troop #143 will take part in a pet rescue adoption drive in August.

Illinois Animal Rescue will bring adoptable cats and dogs to the PetSmart in McHenry, 3370 Shoppers Drive, Aug. 1-2. Girl Scouts from the Spring Grove troop will be on hand to help adopters and teach them about caring for the pets. To prepare for the volunteer effort, the troop participated in a training session about pet care and adoption, led by the Alliance for Humane Action and Illinois Animal Rescue.

"This troop's girls are smart, caring young ladies," Rebecca Adler, director of education for AHA, said in a news release. "It's clear that they are committed to this project and to helping some deserving animals achieve a happy life."

The event is from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. For information, call the store at 815-578-1530.
