Re-evaluating
Three of our soldiers were killed at the end of last week as a result of a rocket attack on our base in Basra.
I can't describe what it was like when I heard that three men were killed. Maybe some of you unfortunately know what that's like.
Aside from the anger I felt, all I could think of is the three families who would start their Friday morning with a knock at their door and soldiers in the dress uniforms delivering the worst news their families will ever hear.
It really made me re-evaluate what I thought about the situation we're in with this war. I find it unbelievable that we're trying to help this country and this is the cost. We left our families, and our entire lives for a year, and people are trying to kill us. Granted it's a small minority, but sometimes that's all it takes to change a person's thinking.
Anyone aware of the fact that the day we officially left the cities, on June 30, the government of Iraq declared it a day of celebration? It seems somewhat ironic that we liberated them from one of the cruelest rulers and they're celebrating us leaving their cities.
Makes you wonder if it's worth it. But wait... don't decide now. Give it another three years. My money says no, it wasn't worth it. I do hope I'm wrong though.
