Guillen aims for October

Ozzie Guillen did not hesitate when asked whether his favorite time to manage was late August during a pennant race.

"No," Guillen said. "My favorite time to manage is October. That’s it. You don’t manage in October, you’re not a good manager. That’s my goal."

The Sox are 2 1/2 games behind Detroit with 38 games to go in the regular season.

"You work every day, day in and day out, for one goal," Guillen said. "That’s it. To go to the playoffs and win the World Series. When you don’t do that, that’s a waste of a year. You waste all six, seven months of your life.

"It’s fun to be in the pennant race," he said. "I can call myself a veteran manager in that situation because I went through a lot of things. Right now, I enjoy it. I’d rather be in this situation right now than somewhere else. I love coming to the ballpark, and that means something. I hope for the rest of my career as a manager, I have the same feeling I have right now."
