Cutler downplays return
Jay Cutler might feel extra emotions when he returns to Denver for Sunday's preseason game, but he isn't admitting that to the media.
Cutler spoke with reporters Wednesday before the Bears practiced at Halas Hall. He said it was no more special to visit Denver than it would be to visit Seattle or any other city on the NFL map.
"Not preseason," Cutler said. "It doesn't matter. It doesn't count for anything. We just want to go out there and play well, execute our offense."
When he takes the field Sunday, Cutler has a pretty good idea how fans will welcome him.
"Probably poorly," he said with a slight smile. "That would be my first guess."
The Bears acquired Cutler on April 2 in a deal for Kyle Orton, two first-round draft picks and a third-round pick. Cutler had put his Denver house on the market after falling out with new Broncos head coach Josh McDaniels over the coach's reported interest in Matt Cassel.
Don't expect Cutler and McDaniels to hug and make up before Sunday's game.
"I don't think they want to talk to me," Cutler said.
However, Cutler wished his former teammates the best.
"I keep in touch with all those guys," he said. "This week's a little different than most. I'll see them on the field, before the game and after the game, and wish them the best of luck."
The Bears play the Broncos at 7 p.m. Sunday on NBC.
