Brown won't take Broncos lightly
Bears defensive end Alex Brown is ready to take on a lighter opponent after facing barge-like Orlando Pace every day in practice.
On Sunday, the Bears will play the Denver Broncos, whose offensive line is lighter than most teams'. The Broncos starting line features two players who are less than 300 pounds and right tackle Ryan Harris, who is listed at exactly 300 pounds.
"I mean, 290, you might be in trouble at 290," Brown said with a smile. "I’ve got to go against Pace every day. Pace is 330. So 290? I mean, that’s a light guy."
Regardless, Brown said the Bears' defensive line's approach would not change.
"Coach [Rod] Marinelli has a little saying that the conditions or the environment may change – we don’t," Brown said. "We go do what we do. We’re going to go out and we’re going to play. We’re going to read our keys. We’re going to play fast. I don’t care if the offensive lineman weighs 290 or 330, it doesn’t matter. I’ve still got to read my keys, still got to do my job.
"Now you understand that they’re a little quicker and stuff like that, but it’s not going to change what you do," Brown said. "We have a go-to pitch, if you’re a pitcher. That’s what we do. We go in and we go [fast]. We’re going to get off the ball. We’re going to hit you in the face."
Brown did not participate in the start of practice Thursday, which took place on the outdoor fields at Halas Hall. Nick Roach, Henry Melton and Jamar Williams also did not participate.
Bears coach Lovie Smith will provide injury updates after practice this afternoon.
