The first day

Some of the biggest steps in life you have to take alone.

But it's kind of nice to have a big sister by your side, guiding you, as you take them. 

One day, when she's older, I hope she appreciates that. 

I know I do.

Because after I watched my tiny 3-year-old board a bus for pre-school and sink into a seat, her head barely reaching the bottom of the bus window, I called my big sister.

And she listened.

And even though she's miles away, it was as if her arm was around my back, too.
