The Huntley Fire Protection District recently earned its accreditation status through the Commission on Fire Accreditation International under the Center for Public Safety Excellence. It is the only such-accredited district in McHenry County, and the 12th in the state.
"This was an effort that involved everybody because different aspects of the organization had to contribute to this," said Huntley Fire Chief Jim Saletta.
That effort also meant five years of work, but much of it done in the last 18 months. The process included developing a strategic plan, completing a self-assessment, undergoing an accreditation team's assessment, and – in the end – filing about 1,000 pages of documentation, Saletta said.
