Dog walk to benefit Crystal Lake shelter

McHENRY – The Assisi Animal Foundation Woof Walk Run in McHenry will benefit the Crystal Lake animal shelter.

The walk and run are to be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 13, at the Northern Woods Shelter at Moraine Hills State Park, 1510 S. River Road, Mchenry. Registration begins at 12:30 p.m.

Registration costs $15 and includes a doggy goody bag and T-shirt. All proceeds will benefit the Assisi Animal Foundation.

The walk starts and ends at the Northern Woods Shelter located in Moraine Hills on designated
walking trails. Participants can choose to complete 3.74 miles jaunt or return to the starting location at any point.

After the walk there will be an award ceremony at 2:30 p.m. There are awards for each dog participating, along with dog treats and water. Later, there will be a picnic at the Northern Woods Shelter. Picnic-goers are expected to bring their own food.

Participants must have proof of rabies vaccine and 6-foot or shorter leash. Cat owners are also welcome to participate and can bring a picture of their pet.

The Assisi Animal Foundation, located in Crystal Lake, has been serving McHenry County for 23 years. It was the first no-kill, minimal-cage facility in the county.
