Coaches rip Cutler
Former NFL head coaches Jim Mora and Mike Martz had some harsh words for Bears quarterback Jay Cutler this week.
Cutler's four interceptions Sunday against Green Bay were not the coaches' cause for concern. Instead, they focused on the quarterback's dismissive attitude in his postgame news conference.
"When I saw that postgame press conference [Sunday] night, I thought he looked completely immature; he acted like he didn't even care," Mora said Monday night on the debut of "The Head Coaches" on NFL Network.
Martz, a quarterback-friendly coach who guided the St. Louis Rams while Lovie Smith was the team's defensive coordinator, agreed.
"He just doesn't get it," Martz said. "He doesn't understand that he represents a great head coach and the rest of those players on that team. ... Somebody needs to talk to him."
In a previous show, Martz said it looked as if the Bears' receivers ran bad routes to cause a couple of Cutler's interceptions. But Martz said Cutler also forced too many bad throws Sunday, and his decision to throw the ball into traffic ultimately cost him.
Practice could help Cutler and his receivers avoid further miscommunication. Meanwhile, the coaches said, Cutler could work on better communication to reporters after the game.
"I just didn't think he was very professional, very accountable," Mora said.
"The Head Coaches" airs from 5:30 to 6 p.m. CT on Mondays on NFL Network. The show, which features a roundtable discussion between Mora, Martz and Steve Mariucci, replays at 7:30 p.m. and 9 p.m. CT on Monday.
After an off day Tuesday, Cutler and the Bears return to Halas Hall on Wednesday to prepare for the Pittsburgh Steelers.
