Huntley firefighters fighting cancer

On Oct. 1, the Huntley Fire Protection District will kick off a local campaign in honor of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Most of Huntley's firefighters have been affected by cancer at some point in their lives, either at home or by providing pre-hospital care for patients and their families.

This year's slogan, "Heroes for Hope," will be out in full force as department members sport pink T-shirts on duty throughout the month. T-shirts also are being sold to benefit cancer research and local support organizations.

T-shirts can be purchased at Huntley Fire Station No. 2, located at 10590 Reed Road in Huntley, and at the Culver's of Huntley, located at 13240 Route 47.

Costs are $15 for short-sleeved shirts and $17 for long-sleeved shirts.

The Huntley Fire Protection District's goal this year is to raise $10,000 for breast cancer charities.
