New policies at Soldier Field
The Bears will prohibit backpacks, large purses and fanny packs as part of increased security measures this weekend at Soldier Field.
The team announced changes this week to what security workers will allow inside the stadium. Although the Bears did not specify the reason for the changes, recent federal bulletins advised sports stadiums and entertainment venues to take extra precautions.
"We are aware of the memos from the federal government, including that there is no information specific to any sports stadium," NFL spokesman Greg Aiello told the Associated Press. "This underscores the high levels of stadium security that are maintained and will continue to be maintained at every NFL game for the safety of our fans and teams."
The Bears said the following items are prohibited inside of Soldier Field:
• Any size or type of backpacks
• Purses and bags larger than 12" x 12" x 12"
• Fanny packs
• Duffel bags
• Non-fitting, oversized camera and binocular cases
The following items are allowed inside of Soldier Field after a security inspection:
• Small purses
• Diaper bags (with related items)
• Medical bags
• Clear zip-lock bags for personal food
• Clear Bears Pro Shop bags with merchandise from stadium stores
• Cameras (6-inch lens maximum) and binoculars with fit-to-size cases
• All permitted items must fit into the 12" x 12" x 12" template box at the gates
The Bears said the revised security measures will remain in effect indefinitely.
