Flyers deal ’Canes 8th straight loss

PHILADELPHIA – Braydon Coburn scored twice and Scott Hartnell and Matt Carle each had a goal and two assists to help the Philadelphia Flyers snap a two-game losing streak and send the Carolina Hurricanes to their eighth consecutive loss, 6-1, on Saturday.

Bruins 2, Oilers 0: At Boston, Rookie Tuukka Rask turned aside 19 shots for his second shutout in eight NHL starts, and Vladimir Sobotka and Blake Wheeler set each other up for goals to lead Boston against Edmonton.

Thrashers 3, Senators 1: AT Ottawa, Ondrej Pavelec made 50 saves, and Rich Peverley had a goal and assist for Atlanta, which broke a four-game losing streak by beating Ottawa.

Devils 2, Lightning 1 (SO): At Tampa, Fla., David Clarkson scored the lone shootout goal in the fourth round of the tiebreaker and New Jersey extended its road winning streak to seven games.

Islanders 5, Sabres 0: At Uniondale, N.Y., Martin Biron earned his 200th NHL win and 26th career shutout, and Jeff Tambellini scored three goals for his first career hat trick as New York routed Buffalo.

Wild 2, Penguins 1: At Pittsburgh, Niklas Backstrom made 34 saves and Minnesota won on the road for the first time this season.

Predators 4, Stars 2: At Nashville, Tenn., Patric Hornqvist and Kevin Klein scored goals 1:43 apart midway through the third period to lead Nashville against Dallas.

Canadiens 5, Maple Leafs 4 (SO): At Montreal, Mike Cammalleri and Scott Gomez scored in a shootout to lift Montreal past Toronto after squandering a two-goal lead in the third period.

The Canadiens led 4-2 midway through the frame, but Alexei Ponikarovsky’s second of the game and a last-minute goal from Tomas Kaberle tied it with 54 seconds left in regulation.

Panthers 4, Blues 0: At St. Louis, Tomas Vokoun stopped all 34 shots for his 32nd NHL shutout and Nathan Horton had a goal and an assist as Florida beat St. Louis.

Coyotes 3, Ducks 2 (SO): At Glendale, Ariz., Radim Vrbata scored in the shoot­out to give Phoenix a win against Anaheim.

Phoenix goalie Ilya Bryzgalov stopped Corey Perry, Ryan Getzlaf and Teemu Selanne in the tiebreaker to preserve the win. The Coyotes earned their ninth win of October, tying a franchise record.
