Bears' Harris apologizes

Bears defensive tackle Tommie Harris apologized to fans Monday for a sucker punch that caused him to be ejected from Sunday's game.

On the fourth play of Sunday's game, Harris reared back and punched Arizona Cardinals guard Deuce Lutui inside of his helmet. Harris was forced to leave the field after the play, whereas Bears fans were forced to watch the rest of the defense in a 41-21 loss at Soldier Field.

Harris stood in front of his locker Monday afternoon and spoke to the media.

"I just wanted to apologize to my fans, first off," Harris said. "Little kids out there that saw that action, that behavior. ... I apologize to my teammates, and I'll make up for it."

Harris said the punch stemmed from several skirmishes early in the game with Lutui.

"He did some unnecessary stuff during the game, but I still have to be able to control myself," Harris said. "In the six years that I've been here, I've never done anything like that. He kind of pushed me to my limits, but I apologize."

The possibility exists that Harris could be suspended for Thursday's game at San Francisco. He said that the team would handle any necessary business with the NFL office.

"I don't know," Harris said. "I just show up and come to work like it's a regular work week."
