'The Breakfast Club' revisited

Text Size: AaAaAaAaAa

For the first this time this weekend, I saw "The Breakfast Club." I'll admit I enjoyed the movie's witty script, depth of characters and absolute jerk of a detention proctor.

I found the stereotypes portrayed in the movie interesting. The nerd, the jock, the princess, the burn-out, and the basket case all reflected extreme cases of characters found in high school. However, is it not possible to become a hybrid between these generalizations?

I can think of multiple "princesses" who are "burn-outs." I can think of "burn-outs" who are "basket cases," "nerds" who are "princesses," and so forth.

These generalities are found in other high school movies such as "Mean Girls," where everyone fits in a specific social category.

For once, possibly, someone should make a high school movie that portrays the complicated identities of those in high school, not just Hollywood's predisposed ideas of their cliques.
