Bears waive Pace

The Bears waived left tackle Orlando Pace on Monday evening.

Pace, 34, failed to impress the team after he signed a three-year contract with the Bears last summer. He started 11 games at left tackle before he was sidelined by a groin injury, and he was replaced by Chris Williams even after he returned to full health.

Injuries were nothing new to Pace, who was the first overall pick of the 1997 NFL draft. He was named to seven Pro Bowls from 1999 to 2005, but injuries limited him to 23 games in the previous three seasons before he joined the Bears.

The Bears also waived tight end Fontel Mines and guard Tyler Reed. Neither player appeared in a regular-season game for the team.

The NFL's free agency period begins at 11:01 p.m. Thursday.
