The last date a petition regarding the Huntley post office will be available is March 19.

Citing an inadequate and unsafe facility location, Huntley officials are circulating a petition asking the U.S. Postal Service to cease efforts to renew a building lease that expires next year.

A village newsletter sent this week detailed Huntley’s population increased from 5,730 people in 2000 to 23,229 people in 2008. Village officials say that parking for and access to the downtown post office have become problems as Huntley has grown.

The lease at 11013 N. Woodstock St. expires in 2011.

Huntley residents can sign a petition that requests the Postal Service allow other property owners in the village the opportunity to compete for the post office lease at a new location. The petition is available during normal hours of operation at the Village Hall, 10987 Main St.
