The Bears signed fullback Eddie Williams to a one-year contract Wednesday afternoon.

Williams, 22, was the Washington Redskins' seventh-round draft choice (221st overall) in the 2009 NFL draft. He spent most of the season on the Redskins' practice squad before he was promoted to the 53-man roster Nov. 2, but he did not appear in any games.

Williams (6-1, 249) could compete for a roster spot in Bears' offensive coordinator Mike Martz's new scheme. He caught 100 passes for 1,205 yards and 11 touchdowns in for years at Idaho, where he also ran the ball 19 times for 195 yards and three touchdowns.

Eight-year veteran Jason McKie remains atop the Bears' depth chart at fullback. McKie, who will turn 30 years old in May, caught five passes for 13 yards last season.
