Top-seeded Syracuse (28-4) is left to wonder whether it’s done enough to earn a No. 1 seed in the NCAA tournament, but also has to worry about Arinze Onuaku. He hurt his right knee and did not return to the game. He is expected to get an MRI exam when the team returned home.
Austin Freeman added 18 points for the eighth-seeded Hoyas (22-9), who will play fifth-seeded Marquette today.
No. 1 Kansas 80, Texas Tech 68: At Kansas City, Mo., Cole Aldrich had 12 points and 18 rebounds, and top-seeded Kansas (30-2) became the third team to reach 2,000 wins by pulling out a victory against ninth-seeded Texas Tech (17-15) in the Big 12 tournament quarterfinals.
Kansas, which joined Kentucky and North Carolina in the 2,000-win club, will face fourth-seeded Texas A&M today.
No. 7 West Virginia 54, Cincinnati 51: At New York, Da’Sean Butler took an inbounds pass and banked in a three-pointer at the buzzer to give third-seeded West Virginia (25-6) a victory in the Big East tournament quarterfinals.
The Mountaineers were the only one of the conference’s top four seeds to advance to the semifinals and will face seventh-seeded Notre Dame today.
No. 8 New Mexico 75, Air Force 69: At Las Vegas, Darrington Hobson scored 28 points to help New Mexico set a school record for wins in a season during the Mountain West Conference quarterfinals.
Dairese Gary added 20 points for New Mexico (29-3).
Marquette 80, No. 10 Villanova 76: At New York, Lazar Hayward gave Marquette (22-10) the lead with a three-pointer with 1:51 left, then added the clinching free throws with 3.2 seconds to go in the Big East tournament quarterfinals.
Corey Stokes had 22 points for Villanova (24-7).
No. 9 Kansas St. 83, Oklahoma St. 64: At Kansas City, Mo., Jamar Samuels scored 21 of his career-high 27 points in the first half, and second-seeded Kansas State routed seventh-seeded Oklahoma State (22-10) in the Big 12 tournament quarterfinals.
The Wildcats (25-6) will play third-seeded Baylor today.
No. 14 BYU 95, TCU 85: At Las Vegas, Jimmer Fredette set a Mountain West tournament record with 45 points, and BYU (29-4) broke the school’s 60-year-old mark for wins in a season in the quarterfinals.
No. 15 Tennessee 59, LSU 49: At Nashville, Tenn., Wayne Chism had 17 points and 10 rebounds, and Tennessee (24-7) came back from a miserable first half to advance in the Southeastern Conference tournament.
LSU (11-20) held Tennessee to 25.9 percent from the floor in the first half, its worst shooting performance of any half this season. Tennessee, seeded third in the East Division, will face West No. 2 seed Mississippi today.
Notre Dame 50, No. 16 Pittsburgh 45: At New York, Luke Harangody came off the bench and hit three key free throws in the final two minutes to help Notre Dame (23-10) into the Big East tournament semifinals.
Brad Wanamaker scored 16 for Pittsburgh (24-8), knocked out in its Big East tournament opener as the No. 2 seed for the second consecutive season.
No. 21 Baylor 86, Texas 67: At Kansas City, Mo., LaceDarius Dunn, benched with three quick fouls in the first half, rebounded with 17 of his 19 points after intermission, and third-seeded Baylor (25-6) defeated sixth-seeded Texas (24-9) in the Big 12 quarterfinals.
No. 23 Texas A&M 70, Nebraska 64: At Kansas City, Mo., Donald Sloan scored 23 points, and Bryan Davis had a key three-point play at the 1:01 mark, helping fourth-seeded Texas A&M (23-8) advance in the Big 12 tournament by beating 12th-seeded Nebraska
(15-18).
