E. coli closes
3 beaches

Three area beaches have been closed by the health department, and two have been placed under advisory because of high E. coli levels.

LeVilla Vaupell 2 on Griswold Lake near Holiday Hills, Dorothy Court in Island Lake, and Veterans Park in Island Lake are closed.

Main Beach in Crystal Lake and South Beach 2 on Silver Lake near Cary are under advisory.

Because of anticipated ongoing heavy rains, the beaches will be posted with rain advisory signs, and additional sampling will be done Monday.

All licensed beaches on the 13 lakes in McHenry County are tested every two weeks for E. coli throughout the summer to determine water quality. Additional, more frequent testing is done when elevated bacterial levels are found.

Beach water results and locations are available at www.mcdh.info or by calling 815-334-4585.
