Sheriff’s office
investigates collision

GREENWOOD – Five people were injured Friday night in a two-vehicle accident at a rural intersection.

A Chevy van collided with a Ford Focus at the intersection of Queen Anne and Thayer roads about 8:30 p.m. Friday.

Two people were in the Ford and three people were in the Chevy van. Two emergency helicopters flew them to area hospitals. All five were injured, said Sgt. Porfirio Campos-Cruz, of the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office.

Police and fire officials from several areas responded. The top of the Chevy van was removed, and several people were taken from the vehicle. It took crews nearly an hour to free one of the passengers.

The extent of their injuries was not immediately known.

The McHenry County Sheriff’s Major Accident Unit is handling the investigation. The cause of the collision was under investigation Friday evening.
