Motorcycle passenger injured when bike strikes deer

McHENRY – A woman who was riding on the back of a motorcycle when it struck a deer over the weekend is in good condition in the hospital Monday.

Angela R. Swanson, 22, of Lakemoor, was riding with Matthew M. Heinz, 24, of McHenry, on a 2006 Honda motorcycle Sunday morning when the struck a deer in the 7000 block of West Route 120, police said.

The crash occurred at 12:43 a.m. Sunday near the west entrance to the Meyer Material Gravel Pit, said Sgt. Brian McKeen of the McHenry Police Department.

Heinz and Swanson were going east on Route 120 when they were ejected from the bike when it struck the deer, which bounded into their path from the north, McKeen said.

A McHenry Township Fire Protection District ambulance crew responded. Heinz declined transport. Swanson was taken to Centegra Hospital - McHenry.

McKeen said he was not sure whether Heinz and Swanson were wearing helmets. No tickets were issued in connection with the crash.
