McHENRY – Ten patrons at McHenry’s Fiesta Days were rescued Saturday from an amusement ride, fire department officials said.
No one was injured but riders were stranded on the ride commonly called “The Zipper” for about an hour, McHenry Township Fire Protection District Lt. David Harwood said.
Firefighters were called to the festival at Petersen Park about 8:30 p.m. when the ride stalled, Harwood said.
“When I got there the operator and amusement company’s maintenance people were trying to repair the ride and get it moving again,” Harwood said.
Firefighters verified passengers were uninjured, and then the amusement company released the breaks to lower each car, Harwood said.
The last patron was freed about 9:50 p.m., Harwood said.
The Zipper will be removed from Fiesta Days, Harwood said.
