Attorney shuffle sparks dispute among officials
WOODSTOCK – Sheriff Keith Nygren is questioning why an assistant state’s attorney is being removed from a case where a political enemy is seeking a special prosecutor to investigate him.
A motion for a substitution of attorney has been filed to replace Assistant State’s Attorney Don Leist with private attorney Bill Caldwell. Both McHenry County State’s Attorney Lou Bianchi and McHenry County Board Chairman Ken Koehler signed the request.
“Don Leist has been handling this case in a very effective way for the past year and a half and suddenly he’s not on it?” Nygren said. “Somebody has to answer to that – the state’s attorney.”
