Former Chicago Wolves star Steve Martins shared his passion for reading with students at Husmann Elementary School.

Martins, who helped the Wolves win two championships, served as the mystery reader for Erika Ferguson's fourth grade class Nov. 10. Ferguson brings in a reader each week and gives students clues about the person's identity to see if they can guess who will be reading that week.

Ferguson's husband helped arrange the visit from the professional hockey player, who played with the Wolves and in the NHL.

Martins, a Harvard graduate, read a story to the class and signed autographs for each of the students.

In college, he was named the Crimson's 1994-95 male athlete of the year. He played with the Wolves from 1997-98 and again from 2006-09. The team won the Turner Cup in 1998 and the Calder Cup in 2008. Martins also played 239 games in the NHL, according to the team's website.

At Husmann, Martins emphasized the importance of education and encouraged students to read about topics that interest them, Ferguson said.
