CHICAGO – The Cubs and Kerry Wood agreed on a one-year deal for the free agent pitcher to return for the 2012 season.
The team made the announcement Friday at the Cubs Convention, the club's annual fan festival. The deal, which includes a club option for the 2013 season, is worth a reported $3 million.
Wood, 34, went 3-5 with a 3.35 ERA in 55 relief appearances last year. He missed the end of the season because of a tear his left knee that needed arthroscopic surgery.
Wood wanted to stay with the Cubs. He lives in Chicago year-round, and the team's new management had made it clear that it wanted him back.
