DETROIT – Henrik Zetterberg scored the first of Detroit’s three goals in the first period, and the Red Wings broke a franchise record with their 15th consecutive home victory, a 5-0 win against the Buffalo Sabres on Monday.

It is the longest single-season winning streak by an NHL team at home since 1976, when Philadelphia won 20 in a row to match a league mark set by Boston during the 1929-30 season, according to STATS, LLC.

The Red Wings won 14 straight at home in 1965.

Detroit’s Jimmy Howard made 27 saves for his fifth shutout this season and NHL-high 27th victory.

The Sabres have lost a franchise-record nine consecutive road games in regulation.

Blues 1, Stars 0: At St. Louis, Jaroslav Halak made 22 saves for his third shutout of the season, T.J. Oshie scored midway through the third period, and surging St. Louis stayed unbeaten in 2012.

The Blues have earned 13 out of a possible 14 points this month (6-0-1) and are tied with the New York Rangers and Blackhawks atop the NHL standings with 60 points.

Bruins 3, Panthers 2 (SO): At Sunrise, Fla., Patrice Bergeron scored two goals, David Krejci scored the winner in the shootout, and Boston beat Florida.

Tuukka Rask stopped 38 shots for Boston.

Jets 2, Senators 0: At Ottawa, Chris Mason made 25 saves for his second shutout, and Winnipeg ended a three-game losing streak with a win against Ottawa.

Predators 3, Islanders 1: At Uniondale, N.Y., Sergei Kostitsyn and Matt Halischuk scored on Nashville’s first two shots against New York goalie Kevin Poulin, and the surging Predators rolled to a victory.

Coyotes 6, Avalanche 1: At Glendale, Ariz., Shane Doan and Boyd Gordon scored two goals apiece, and Phoenix returned from an 0-3 road trip to rout Colorado.
