Reimer, Leafs hang shutout on Penguins
TORONTO – James Reimer stopped all 25 shots he faced Wednesday, and Clarke MacArthur scored in the third period to lift the Toronto Maple Leafs over the Pittsburgh Penguins, 1-0.
The win gave the Maple Leafs a split of a home-and-home set with Pittsburgh one night after the Penguins erased a 4-1 deficit in the third period before pulling out a 5-4 shootout win.
It looked as if overtime again would be necessary Wednesday until MacArthur took a pass from Mikhail Grabovski and deked around Brent Johnson with 6:05 to go in regulation.
It was the second shutout this season against Pittsburgh.
Rangers 1, Sabres 0: At Buffalo, N.Y., Ryan Callahan scored the decisive shootout goal and Henrik Lundqvist stopped 34 shots to lead New York to a win against Buffalo.
Callahan scored in the fifth round of the shootout by driving in on Ryan Miller, leaning to his right and snapping a shot into the open left side.
Panthers 4, Capitals 2: At Sunrise, Fla., Mikael Samuelsson had two goals, and Florida beat Washington.
Stephen Weiss and Shawn Matthias also scored for Florida, and Scott Clemmensen stopped 26 shots. Tomas Fleischmann had a pair of assists for the Panthers, who moved into first place in the Southeast Division – a point ahead of Washington.
