CARY – District 26's Deer Path Elementary School, serving students through fifth grade this year, was awarded this week the Academic Excellence Award by the State Board of Education, a district news release said.

Notification of the award was sent to the district this week based on the performance of students last year on the Illinois State Assessment Test (ISAT).

To earn an Academic Excellence Award, an elementary school must meet the following criteria.

• Schools must have made Adequate Yearly Progress in 2010 and 2011 as required by No Child Left Behind.

• 90 percent of students must have met or exceeded state standards in both reading and mathematics for the three most recent school years.

Some 438 schools across Illinois earned the honor this year, the district news release said.
