CHICAGO – A freight train derailed northwest of Chicago on Friday morning, disrupting commuter train service but causing no injuries.
Canadian Pacific Railway spokesman Ed Greenberg said seven of the train's 77 cars derailed. He said Friday that it was too early to know the cause. Greenberg said two of the cars tipped over, including one carrying paper. He said none of the derailed cars contained hazardous materials and there was no risk to the public.
The Metra commuter service said the train blocked two of its three tracks near Grand and Cicero avenues, causing delays of up to 20 minutes. Metra said none of its trains were involved in the derailment.
