Coyotes here first

To the Editor:

This will be my second letter to the editor in regard to the coyote problem in northern Illinois.

To the uninformed, this is mating season for coyote families, and they can be protective in watching over their broods.

You have to remember that they have been around these parts for hundreds of years.

These were their hunting grounds for that amount of time and more.

At one time, you and your families were living in the city and then the suggestion came up about moving to the country for a better life for you and your family.

New subdivisions were being built and the builders had no idea that they were changing the ecological system drastically, destroying areas where all of these wild animals were living.

The almighty dollar seems to destroy these areas without any consideration as to what was to happen to the wildlife.

Common sense is the answer to some of these problems.

Learn to live with it or think of moving back to the city.

To protect families and pets, use common sense.

Don’t leave children or beloved pets outside unattended.

Be more attentive to your surroundings.

Believe me, these animals are trying to adjust to living alongside humans, which sometimes can be somewhat awkward.

We’re not perfect by any means. Remember this parable: We’re all God’s children – and so are the animals.

We all have to learn to live together, simple as that.

Have a blessed day.

I’m a retired hunter of many years.
