The year of Adele should continue when the 54th annual Grammy Awards are presented 7 p.m. Sunday on CBS.
The British singer is nominated for six awards and also is set to perform on the broadcast.
It will be her first time singing in front of an audience since throat surgery last November.
We should hear Adele's name called several times during the awards show as she continues to be on a roll with her album "21."
Here are my picks for some of the main Grammy Awards categories. My predicted winners' names are in bold.
ALBUM OF THE YEAR
"21" Adele
"Wasting Light" Foo Fighters
"Born This Way" Lady Gaga
"Doo-Wops & Hooligans" Bruno Mars
"Loud" Rihanna
Adele's name should be called several times throughout the night. Her album, "21," is better than anything else this category has to offer. I'm not saying the other choices are bad albums, it's just that Adele is on another level. Without her in this category, probably Rihanna or Bruno Mars would get the win.
BEST NEW ARTIST
The Band Perry
Bon Iver
J.Cole
Nicki Minaj
Skrillex
This award really is a toss-up. My choice is Nicki Minaj. She's entertaining, original and has some talent. But look out for Bon Iver to possibly pick up the win. The moody rock act got a lot of love from the Grammys nominating committee. A possible dark horse winner is Skrillex based on his innovation, but that's highly unlikely. He will instead be honored in the Best Dance Recording category.
SONG OF THE YEAR
“All of the Lights”
“The Cave”
“Grenade”
“Holocene”
“Rolling in the Deep”
If there is one award that Adele won't win, it will be the one that honors song writing. The one knock on the singer has been her lyrics. Some critics have said her song writing just isn't on par with her vocal talent. I'm going to give this one to the Bruno Mars song "Grenade."
RECORD OF THE YEAR
"Rolling in the Deep" Adele
"Holocene" Bon Iver
"Grenade" Bruno Mars
"The Cave" Mumford & Sons
"Firework" Katy Perry
While "Rolling in the Deep" won't win an award for song writing, it was still the biggest single of the year. It should win Record of The Year based on Adele's performance alone.
"The Cave" and "Grenade" aren't bad songs either. I have no idea how "Firework" is up for an award. The other nominees here are far superior.
BEST POP VOCAL ALBUM
"21" Adele
"The Lady Killer" Cee Lo Green
"Born This Way" Lady Gaga
"Doo-Wops & Hooligans" Bruno Mars
"Loud" Rihanna
By this point, I think you know who should win this one. Rihanna's album, "Loud" produced a lot of hits, but it should be no match for Adele.
BEST ROCK ALBUM
"Rock ‘N’ Roll Party Honoring Les Paul," Jeff Beck
"Wasting Light," Foo Fighters
"Come Around Sundown," Kings of Leon
"I’m With You," Red Hot Chilli Peppers
"The Whole Love," Wilco
It was a down year for mainstream rock albums. My theory is most of those nominated in this category are simply there because of name recognition. Kings of Leon, Red Hot Chili Peppers and Wilco all released albums that were OK, but it was the Foo Fighters who put out the best rock album.
BEST RAP ALBUM
“Watch The Throne,” Jay-Z and Kanye West
“Tha Carter IV,” Lil Wayne
“Lasers,” Lupe Fiasco
“Pink Friday,” Nicki Minaj
“My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy,” Kanye West
At of all of the main award categories, I think Best Rap Album may be the most difficult to predict. "My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy" was one of the best albums of 2010 when it came out late that year. A long time has passed since then. Will is be forgotten? Either way I think Kanye West should get some love in this category. But it will probably be for his joint effort with Jay-Z on "Watch The Throne."
