Ill. man killed, trooper injured in crash
ADDISON (AP) – A 42-year-old man has been killed and a state trooper was injured in a crash on a Chicago-area expressway.
State police say the trooper pulled over early Saturday on the Eisenhower Expressway in Addison to assist the man, whose car was disabled.
The man was sitting in the back seat of the trooper's state police vehicle to keep warm as they waited for a tow truck when a car slammed into them.
The man died of his injuries. Authorities say he was from Brookfield but haven't released his name pending the notification of relatives.
State police say the trooper is in serious condition at an area hospital with a possible concussion.
The driver of the vehicle that hit the trooper's car has non-life-threatening injuries. Citations are pending.
