GLENDALE, Ariz. – Mike Smith stopped 38 shots for his third shutout this season, and the Phoenix Coyotes beat the Blackhawks, 3-0, Saturday night.
The Hawks lost their eighth straight overall – their longest skid since the 2007-08 season – and 10th in a row on the road. Their last win was a 3-1 victory over Florida on Jan. 20.
Radim Vrbata, Boyd Gordon and Kyle Chipchura scored for the Coyotes, who won their fifth straight to pull within three points of Chicago in the Western Conference standings. Phoenix stands in eighth place in the West, just two points ahead of Colorado, which lost to St. Louis 3-2 in overtime earlier Saturday.
