Jacobs grad Moran helps N. Iowa beat Illinois State

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – Seth Tuttle had 17 points and 11 rebounds, Jacobs grad Johnny Moran added 16 points – including four 3-pointers – and Northern Iowa rolled to a 78-63 victory over Illinois State on Saturday night.

The loss denied ISU’s Tim Jankovich his 100th victory as Redbirds coach.

Akron 75, Northern Illinois 51: At Akron, Ohio, Nikola Cvetinovic scored 14 points and Akron stayed atop the Mid-American Conference East standings with an easy victory against Northern Illinois.

Keith Gray and Abdel Nader led Northern Illinois with 13 points apiece, but it was hardly enough for the Huskies (3-20, 2-9), in last place in the MAC West.

Loyola 78, Illinois-Chicago 69: At Chicago, Ben Averkamp scored 17 points, leading five Loyola players in double figures, and the Ramblers won their first Horizon League game of the season by beating Illinois-Chicago.

Indiana State 78, Southern Illinois 68: At Terre Haute, Ind. Indiana State set an NCAA record by making all 12 3-pointers it took in a victory against Southern Illinois.

Eastern Illinois 74, Tennessee-Martin 71: At Martin, Tenn., Joey Miller scored 28 points to lead Eastern Illinois over Tennessee-Martin.

The Panthers (11-14, 4-9 Ohio Valley Conference) led 40-33 at halftime before the Skyhawks took a three point lead, 47-44, on Mike Liabo’s 3-pointer with 15:45 to play.

Oral Roberts 61, Western Illinois 51: At Tulsa, Okla., Dominique Morrison scored 17 points to help Oral Roberts clinch a share of the Summit League championship with the victory against Western Illinois.
