Coyotes, healthy soils among seminar topics

CRYSTAL LAKE – Learning to live with coyotes will be among the presentation topics during the Wildflower Preservation and Propagation Committee’s 20th annual Natural Landscaping Seminar on Feb. 25 at McHenry County College.

The seminar, “Tending the Earth,” will be from 8:30 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. Feb. 25 at the Luecht Conference Center at MCC, 8900 Route 14, Crystal Lake.

“Coyotes: Learn the Facts, and Dispel the Myths,” will be presented by Chris Anchor, Cook County Forest Preserve District field biologist.

Also speaking will be native plant expert and renowned gardening personality Neil Diboll, who will present “Landscaping with Native Plants for Birds, Butterflies and People,” the propagation committee’s Nancy Gonsiorek said in a news release.

Jim Nardi, a research scientist with the University of Illinois Department of Entomology, will help those in attendance learn about healthy soil for great gardening in “The World Beneath
our Feet.”

The Wildflower Preservation and Propagation Committee also will celebrate its
homeowner mentoring program, “100 Natural Yards: Bringing Nature Home to McHenry County.” The program will end with a discussion by the event speakers. The public is invited to attend, learn and share a love of gardening.

Educators can earn 6.25 CPDU continuing education credits for attendance.

The cost to attend is $30 in advance or $35 at the door, including lunch.
