Our view: Our taxes hard at work
It probably would be better for everyone if Illinois citizens knew less about what was going on in their government.
If John Q. Public would just butt out and let the professionals take care of things on their behalf without asking too many questions, things would run a lot more smoothly. Public accountability is fine, so long as it’s not inconvenient or potentially embarrassing for anyone.
OK, so we don’t really feel that way. But apparently some members of the McHenry County Board do. The county is spending taxpayer dollars for membership in Metro Counties of Illinois, a lobbying group working in Springfield to add more exceptions to the state’s Freedom of Information Act.
