MURPHYSBORO (AP) – Authorities in southern Illinois are investigating the death of a toddler who drowned in a sewer lagoon near his home.

Jackson County Coroner Thomas Kupferer says the 2-year-old boy died Monday night, after apparently wandering away from his parent's supervision at their home near Murphysboro.

The sheriff's department, coroner and the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services are investigating.

Authorities didn't immediately release the boy's name.
