Clinton man gets probation in deer deaths
CLINTON (AP) – A judge in central Illinois has sentenced a 22-year-old man to 24 months of probation and 280 hours of public service for killing seven white tail deer by running them down with a vehicle.
The (Bloomington) Pantagraph reports that Clay Reeves of Clinton pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge of cruelty to animals. Prosecutors say a felony charge of animal torture was dismissed as part of a plea agreement because Reeves cooperated with authorities.
Police officials say Reeves and another man ran over the deer at Clinton Lake with all-terrain vehicles in February 2010. The second man still faces charges.
