Time to stop thinking about it and start doing it!

"Someday is not a day of the week."

I decided it was time to do something bold with my life, something adventurous … something crazy? Maybe! I’ve recently agreed to join a small team of Iowans for the 40th anniversary of RAGBRAI, and have yet to decide which category that decision falls into.

RAGBRAI is the "Register's Annual Great Bike Ride Across Iowa." Riders start on the western edge of the state, and spend seven days riding and camping (in all weather) to finish at the Mississippi River. This year, we will log a total of 471.1 miles.

You might be wondering who is crazy enough to do this, besides me of course, but in reality it’s a huge event in Iowa, drawing 10,000 participants annually. They’re expecting double that for this year’s anniversary. The ride starts exactly 100 days from today and I can’t procrastinate any longer.

I haven't ridden a bike further than 5 miles in about 10 years, have no idea how to change a tire or fix a chain and I generally prefer not to sweat. What could possibly go wrong?

I have 100 days to get myself in shape, learn how to fix a flat and figure out how on Earth I’m going to ride my bike (that I don’t even have yet) 471.1 miles in one week. While I can’t promise this blog will educate you on anything, I’m pretty sure you will enjoy a number of laughs at my expense.

There are so many excuses and reasons why I haven’t really gotten started, but it’s time to get my training in gear ... and actually ride that first mile.
