Blagojevich judge to speak at EIU
CHARLESTON, Ill. — It's unlikely he'll speak directly about former Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich, but the judge who presided over his trial will speak at Eastern Illinois University on a subject at the heart of those proceedings.
U.S. District Judge James Zagel will speak on "The Breach of Public Trust" on Thursday at the university's Doudna Fine Arts Center.
The university says in a news release that the judge almost certainly won't talk about details of the Blagojevich cases since the former governor has appealed his conviction.
Zagel sentenced Blagojevich earlier this year to 14 years in prison. The former governor was convicted on corruption-related charges that included trying to sell or trade President Barack Obama's old U.S. Senate seat.
