Charges dropped in Woodstock child battery case

WOODSTOCK – On the the day he was scheduled to go to trial, prosecutors dropped charges against a Woodstock man who had been accused of severely injuring his 3-month-old daughter on Christmas Day 2010.

If convicted, Rajesh Chilakapati, 42, could have faced up to 30 years in prison after being charged with multiple counts of aggravated battery of a child.

McHenry County Assistant State’s Attorney Michael Combs, chief of the office’s criminal division, said he reviewed the case and determined that the case could not go forward.
