State cuts child care subsidy

Child care facilities that receive subsidies from the state’s Child Care Assistance Program will not be paid for three months, according to a letter from the state, leaving day care directors to scramble to cover the shortfall.

The Illinois Department of Human Services notified child care facilities around the state by letter this week that “There is not enough money in the state budget to pay for child care services for the rest of the fiscal year ending June 30.”

There will be no compensation for services rendered in April, May and June, the letter said.
