County budget task force wraps up

WOODSTOCK – The McHenry County Board will ponder a number of significant changes to the way it develops its 2013 budget.

One proposed change from past years would eliminate all frozen positions and vacant positions not filled or advertised within 90 days. Another would increase to six months’ expenses the maximum the county can have in its general fund reserve. And yet another would limit how inflationary increases captured under the tax cap are spent.

The proposed changes were reviewed Friday at the final meeting of the board’s Budget Task Force, which has met monthly since February to examine and improve a budget process that has kept the county’s budget balanced and maintained a top AAA bond rating.
